In 2009, the game was awarded the Guinness World Record for "the most popular multiplayer online role-playing game". The antagonist of the second expansion, released in 2007, is the Lich King, ruler of the host of the undead, better known as the Scourge. He controls and directs his armies and makes them descend upon the lands, while he himself sits at the center of a glacier, the Ice Crown.
